What makes BaseLine Ball better and different?
Great question! Here’s a handy comparison chart to go over a few core categories we feel are important to address when it comes to great tailgate / backyard games.
Game play is actually quite simple, for those over the drinking age, it is very similar to the rules of beer baseball. Except bigger and better and anyone can play!
Applying the rules of baseball to this game is a great starting point. Two teams of an even number of players, ideally 1-4 (although you can go up as high as you would like as I’ll get into that more later), play both offense and defense.
The offense, or team that is batting, lines up behind home plate. Once a lineup is established someone begins to toss the ball with the goal of making it land in the mesh netting of the 4 squares. Each square netting represents either a single, double, triple, or homerun. And the order goes front to back as you will see below.
The goal is to string together hits to force ghost runners’ home to score runs. As an example, a double hit would leave a runner on 2nd base and if the next batter hits a triple, 1 run would score since the runner on 2nd base was forced home. Sounds simple? Well maybe, but you also have to get it in without a ball bouncing off the piping and being caught by the other team who is playing defense, or by not completely airballing it either.
The defense, or team fielding, lines up behind the BaseLine Board in a defensive position and patiently waits to make some outs. An out is simply catching a ball off a bounce in the air, or if the opponent who is batting misses the board completely on their last strike. But don’t just stand there, be in ready position and give your best effort to make some catches. Plus, you can turn a double play any time someone is on base by catching the ball and quickly tossing it back and getting the ball in the Home Plate!
Now that you know how offense and defense works, the offense has 3 outs to score as many runs as they can, while the defense tries to limit that. After 3 outs are recorded, switch sides, grab some big-league chew and keep the game moving until you reach the set number of innings.
That’s as high-level as you can get, but don’t worry a complete guide of rules and regulations will be provided with the game.
An idea that became a reality
Our History
BaseLine Ball was a game that was developed by a family of engineers and marketeers taking an idea of a fun tailgate game concept to a reality. The journey began years ago and only recently finally came to life.
